Intent
At Little Leigh Primary School, we aim to inspire pupils to be creative thinkers, problem solvers, and future innovators. Using the Kapow scheme, children develop the skills and knowledge to design and make purposeful products across six key areas: Mechanisms, Structures, Textiles, Electrical Systems, Cooking & Nutrition, and Digital World. Pupils are encouraged to experiment, learn from mistakes, and draw inspiration from famous designers and inventors.
Implementation
Lessons are hands-on, engaging, and structured around the design process: research, design, make, and evaluate. Pupils draw on skills from Maths, Science, Art, and Computing to develop practical and technical expertise. They explore real-world problems, evaluate existing products, and are taught to cook and understand nutrition. Creativity, critical thinking, and resilience are encouraged in every lesson.
Impact
By the end of their time at Little Leigh, pupils can confidently plan, create, and evaluate products with purpose. They leave school with strong creative, technical, and problem-solving skills, ready to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts and continue exploring design and technology with curiosity and confidence.
